a friend showed me a new technique she learnt in a class she took with Georgina Hart
I tried it at her place in a journal
Technique:
Paint Background with Black gesso and allow to dry.
Do small strokes of colour with a flat paint brush in a conbination of 6 to 8 colours that work well together.
I used the following Matisse Colours:
Australian Red Violet
Magenta (Quin. Violet)
Cad. Red
Brilliant Allizarin
Cad. Orange
Cad. Yellow
Make sure you constantly change the colour you use.
Use the pure colour as well as blending of colours on the brush - but make sure they don't go muddy.
Once dry, use a paint scraper or old credit card to drag Titanium White paint over the coloured back ground.
This technique can be used as an interesting background once you have painted your image.
Here is a finished piece by my very talented friend Megan, I have been very fortunate to have his piece gifted to me.
A Journal Page...
The technique gave me inspiration in a slightly different direction so I had a play in my journal.
I did the background and whilst it was drying I cut out leaves for masking. (Tip - I actually photocopied my leaf many times to make things easier).
I outlined some of the leaves at the bottom using a white gel pen for definition.
From here I tried it on a small canvas
To highlight the leaves a little more, I outlined them with a mix of Golden's Clear Tar Gel mixed with Titanium White.
Finally, I did it on watercolour paper.....

Hi Ursula, great to see you back blogging again and great to see your art, this looks like a very interesting technique, I'll have to give it a try. Say hello to Megan for me too please.
